The Athenaeum, in partnership with the home and community, seeks to contribute in helping young people develop into responsible and caring citizens. Character Education prepares us to address life's moral and ethical problems. Students develop good character skills through interaction with family, peers, teachers and community members. Most people readily recognize the personal traits that accompany “good character:” a positive attitude, cognizance of what is right and wrong, and the ability to set and accomplish worthy goals.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “Acquiring the qualities of virtue requires a good plan and consistent effort.” With this wisdom in mind we have developed a curriculum of workshops and resources that build Character from the inside out. Our mission is to raise the community’s awareness of Character Education and the indispensable role it plays in the home, on the playground, and at the office. We will work diligently with parents and educators to give Character Education a front row seat in our homes and schools.
